NEW RANSOMES JACOBSEN EQUIPMENT FOR THE BLAIRGOWRIE GOLF CLUB

17-03-2010

Ipswich, Suffolk (March 17, 2010) The greenkeeping team at The Blairgowrie Golf Club in Perthshire have taken delivery of new golf course maintenance equipment from Ransomes Jacobsen’s dealer for Scotland, Fairways GM of Kinross. Ransomes Jacobsen is a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company.

The new equipment includes a Jacobsen Greens King IV ride-on greens mower, a Jacobsen AR-3 for bunker and tees surrounds and a Jacobsen SLF-1880 super light fairway mower complete with cab.

Craig Stewart is head greenkeeper on the Lansdowne course, which was designed by Peter Allis and Dave Thomas and opened in 1979. Commenting on the AR-3 he said, “The rotary cutting system on this machine is the best I’ve come across for mowing longer grassed areas. The TrimTek decks actually lift the grass before cutting and leave a very good finish.”

Brian Scott is the head greenkeeper responsible for the Rosemount course and has used Greens King IV machines for many years; in fact the club has been using them for over 20 years.
“The GK IV is almost idiot proof, simple to use and produces an excellent putting surface”, he says. “As we refresh the fleet we use the latest machine on the greens and as they age they mow tees and finally we fit our verticut heads for their final seasons.”

Completing the trio of head greenkeepers at Blairgowrie is Bruce McLaren, who is responsible for the 9-hole Wee course. “I’m very impressed with this SLF-1880,” he says, “it follows the contours precisely, there’s no ridging and it’s great when turning, tight but very manoeuvrable. Needless to say, with the smaller cutting units, the quality of cut is superb.”

The Blairgowrie Golf Club was founded as a private members club in 1889 and is situated in the heart of the magnificent Perthshire countryside. All three courses are set in heather lined avenues of pine and silver birch.
